Engineering properties in STEP
ISO 10303-235 (Part 235) is an Application Protocol in the ISO 10303 series that uses the ISO 10303-45 Edition 2 to represent engineering properties but adds other capabilities to describe the operations needed to determine the property and the description of the product that has been tested. The information model in ISO 10303-234 provides a structure for the data to communicate the measurements and provides an audit trail to validate the result. The scope of the information model is determined by industrial requirements. The sequence of operations to determine a property that is valid for design is illustrated in the table below.
| Process | Input | Output |
| Sampling of material product | Product for testing | Sampled product |
| Manufacture of sample | Sampled product | Testable sample |
| Testing method | Testable sample | Test result value |
| Test evaluation | Test result value | Evaluated data value |
| Data reduction | Evaluated data values | Reduced data |
| Test and data evaluation | Reduced data | Approved data |
| Test certification | Approved data | Test certificate |
| Product certification | Test certificate | Approved product |
| Derivation of design allowables | Test certificate data | Analysis property values, design allowables |
| Functional design process | Analysis properties, design allowables | Design of functional product |
The information model for all of the processes described in ISO 10303-235 is illustrated in the diagram below.
